Design a multi-section Blog on Typepad, create a id package for a local personality, and implement an eNewsletter feature.
Client: Larry Ratliff, Film Critic
Industry: Journalism
Description: Larry Ratliff is a columnist and movie critic known fondly as "the
jalapeno Guy" in the San Antonio, Texas area. He is a prolific blogger,
presenting his down-to-earth and often funny reviews of movies and of
life in general. Alta Vista Business Services had the pleasure of
creating Larry's original Typepad blog last year when Larry went solo.
This November, Larry is expanding his offering to presentations about
movies and life as a columnist to local colleges, senior centers, and
other venues. So, Movie Memories was launched in mid-December. The
challenge for AVBS, is that Movie Memories is still part of the Larry
Ratliff brand, but needed a slightly more nostalgic look and feel, plus
give Larry the ability to create a Newsletter, and then publish it in
three different ways: blog-style, eNewsletter, and two-sided print. This
was a new challenge for AVBS, because Larry's desire was to manage all
of this going forward with tools he had at his disposal (Typepad, and
Microsoft Publisher).
AVBS started by designing a new logo for
Movie Memories that evokes a classic-era movie feeling using a
silhouette of the famous movie couple from Casa Blanca (Larry's favorite
movie of all time). AVBS used the existing blog template with the same
banner header, but changed the type and colors-- just on those pages to
reflect the desired classic-movie affect. We then applied the same
elements to an eNewsletter template and a Microsoft Publisher template.
Additionally, Larry wanted to apply the logo to coffee mugs and other
give-aways at his presentations. And finally, Larry needed some business
cards.
AVBS was thrilled at the opportunity and challenges, and
had a blast putting it all together. Larry is pleased with the results
and frankly, so are we.
We at AVBS do our best to save our small
business clients' money by letting them utilize Web or software tools
they already own if at all possible. Sometimes it doesn't always work
out that way and many times we can save more in the long run by
providing even better tools, and combining several functions in one easy
and affordable location. The point is, we want to make our clients
happy and satisfied, and do our best to find the right solution for each
one.
